First Baptist Church Master Plan

This master plan revitalized a landmark downtown site, spanning four city blocks that the institution has occupied and expanded since 1929. The design focused on enhancing accessibility for an aging congregation, establishing a clear “front door,” and improving pedestrian wayfinding across multiple entrances. Surrounded by parking lots, the site needed prominent entry points, which the firm addressed by creating cohesive, identifiable pathways. Inspired by the 1929 Romanesque architecture, the new design includes arcades and garden spaces where a public street was removed. Safe drop-off zones and an underground ice-melt system ensure secure, accessible pathways year-round.
